My yoga style

I teach a range of inclusive yoga classes designed to nurture and support beginners and long-term practitioners alike.  My style draws from hatha, yin, ashtanga, purna, and vinyasa.

What to expect from my classes

I combine postural (asana), breathing (pranayama) and meditation (dyana) practices into a balanced practice.  My intention is to support my students ultimately to develop their own steady yoga practice.  My main hatha classes are designed to build the self-awareness and confidence to be able to do this.  A typical class lasts about an hour, and follows the same familiar opening and closing, with some different asana in the middle to help build self-mastery.  The flow is relatively slow, and several breaths are taken in each asana to allow the experience of stillness and steadiness.

My yoga path

I first walked into a yoga class after turning 40.  I was travelling a lot, continuously tired and stressed, and needed a way to keep fit and flexible.  As I went up the stairs to the studio in Tbilisi (Georgia) I committed to doing three classes but only if they were welcoming when I walked in.  Luckily they were lovely and I have stayed in contact with my first teachers ever since.

I studied ashtanga yoga in Kathmandu with Ellen Johannesen, and  Annie Seymour, before moving to Canberra.  When the pandemic hit, and I wasn't traveling, I decided it was a great opportunity to work on my practice and become a teacher.  My wonderful teacher Mel Collings at Wild encouraged me and promised me some classes.  After some research I went to Byron Yoga Centre and changed my life.  My teacher and mentor Bec Isaacs really opened up yoga to me: not just the poses (asana) but the true meaning of yoga as a system and philosophy that helps us to still our minds.

I taught at Wild, Here and Flow Yoga in Canberra, then moved to Surabaya and established a practice at my workplace with a loyal sangha (community) of students.

I am a Yoga Alliance certified 200hrs and 50hrs Yin teacher (from Byron Yoga Centre), and have additional trainings in elements of philosophy (from Bec Isaacs) and trauma-informed yoga.

Feel free to contact me to find out more about my studio or individual classes, and yoga-informed coaching.  Please also contact me if you would like me to teach at your studio or retreat.
